Former Stamford Mayor Dan Malloy, a potential candidate for Governor, today released the following statement in support of Connecticut’s State Police captains and lieutenants, who are seeking to join the Connecticut State Police Commissioned Officers union:
“It was almost four years ago that these commissioned officers voted unanimously to unionize. Since that time Gov. Rell’s administration has continued to waste taxpayer money by appealing decisions from the State Board of Labor Relations as well as a Superior Court judge, denying the officers the same basic rights that already apply to troopers and sergeants.
“Thanks to this obstruction, 22 critical command positions remain unfilled coming out of retirements last July, including the Sex Crimes Unit, Organized Crime, Auto Theft, Statewide Narcotics, the Gang Unit, and State Fire Marshal’s Office. This has left the State less prepared and less safe. I’m confident that Thursday's Supreme Court hearing will bring this unnecessary fight one step closer to a fair and equitable resolution.
“I stand firmly with our State Police captains and lieutenants, and call on Gov. Rell and her administration to cease this wasteful and misguided mission to deny these workers a voice.”
