NEW BRITAIN — The venerable Pulaski Democratic Club has been a stepping stone for successful politicians since its founding in 1931 and former Stamford Mayor Dan Malloy is hoping he is the latest as he explores a bid for the governor’s seat in November.

“The people of Connecticut want change, immediate and systemic change,” Malloy told a group of New Britain and Berlin Democrats Monday.

Malloy, who ran an unsuccessful primary bid for governor four years against New Haven Mayor John DeStefano, said he was very pleased that New Britain Democrats were behind him this time.

“This campaign is not about four years ago, it’s about four years from now,” Malloy said.

On hand to back Malloy were state Sen. Don DeFronzo, D-6th District, state Rep. Tim O’Brien, D-24th District and Council member’s Larry Hermanowski and Shirley Black.

From Berlin, Mayor Adam Salina was joined by Town Democratic Chair Fred Jortner, state Rep. Joe Aresimowicz, D-30th District, and Town Committeeman John Luddy.

“There is no question in my mind that Dan Malloy represents the Democratic Party’s best chance in a generation to win the governor’s race,” said DeFronzo, adding that with 14 years of experience as mayor of one of the state’s biggest cities he has the knowledge to create jobs, balance budgets and hold the line on taxes.

Although Malloy is still in the exploratory phase of his campaign, DeFronzo urged him to declare himself formally.

“He is the right man for the right job at the right time,” DeFronzo said. “I urge him to announce formally as soon as possible.”

Salina, who backed Malloy in his last bid for governor, said his “integrity and personal story” make him a strong candidate.

“When Dan Malloy tells you something you can take it to the bank,” Salina said....
