Dan Malloy has spent his life finding ways to overcome unique challenges.

As a young boy, Dan was diagnosed with a severe learning disability.

However, through much perseverance and determination, he overcame this obstacle and went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude from Boston College and Boston College Law School.

He then became a successful prosecutor, serving as Assistant District Attorney and winning 22 convictions in 23 felony cases. After many years Dan returned home to run for Mayor of Stamford, CT, winning in a landslide victory in 1995.

Dan served 14 years, the city's longest tenure as mayor, and oversaw the city's transformation. Looking forward to the next chapter in his life, Dan hopes to bring the same resolve and creativity to Hartford to tackle Connecticut's biggest problems.

As Governor, Dan Malloy could provide the same types of positive results for Connecticut as he has in his other endeavors. Due to his tireless efforts to make his town a better place, Stamford became one of the ten best places to live in the country under Dan Malloy's leadership:
In a state that has struggled to create employment opportunities, Malloy brought nearly 5,000 new jobs to Stamford. While Connecticut continues to lose residents he was able to attract 12,000 new residents to the city. In addition to jobs, Malloy ensured that residents had access to safe and affordable housing by fighting for and obtaining more than $90 million in Federal and State funding. His fiscal pragmatism has earned Stamford a AAA bond rating for fourteen consecutive years.
Dan also made a commitment to clean energy during his time as Mayor. He developed plans to take city hall off the power grid by end of 2009 and developed a facility that will turn wastewater into energy without carbon emissions, the first project of its kind in the state. A pioneer in environmental awareness and energy, he was recognized with the "Municipal Leader for Energy Efficiency" and the 2008 "Connecticut Climate Change Leadership" awards. Dan also helped make Stamford a great place to live and work by championing transportation efforts such as the development of the Stamford Urban Transitway.
Malloy committed more than 60% of Stamford's capital budget to its public schools, almost double the level of previous administrations. He also implemented the first citywide pre-school program, ensuring that all 4-year-old children have access to pre-K regardless of their economic circumstances. This innovative program earned Dan a 2003 "Outstanding Achievement Award" from US Conference of Mayors, and serves as a model for the rest of the nation.
Upon his election as Mayor, Dan took on the task of turning Stamford around. Applying the same principles of commitment and determination that he's used throughout his life, Dan revitalized the city and turned Stamford into one of the 10 best places to live in the country. During his 14 years as Mayor, he lowered crime by 63%, and achieved thirty year lows. This consistently earned Stamford the repeat label of one of the 'Top 10 safest cities in the U.S.' by the FBI.

In early 2009, Dan Malloy announced his intention to explore a run for Governor of Connecticut in the 2010 election.
